A challenge I’ve noticed in my field of college basketball is the difference between relying on natural talent and developing the consistency and mindset needed for long-term success. Many athletes are skilled enough to compete at a high level, but they struggle to maintain discipline, effort, and focus every day, especially when facing strong competition at the Division I level. I experienced this firsthand after arriving at Morgan State University and joining the men’s basketball program, where I realized that talent alone is not enough to succeed.
My experience within the program has helped me address this issue by emphasizing consistency, accountability, and daily improvement. Being surrounded by talented teammates and a competitive environment has pushed me to stay locked in and commit to growth both on and off the court. I’ve learned that showing up every day with the right mindset and putting in consistent effort is what leads to real development, not just short-term performance.
These experiences have also helped shape me as a leader. Leadership in basketball goes beyond skill—it requires discipline, communication, and the ability to set the standard for others. Through my time at Morgan State, I’ve learned to lead by example through my work ethic, focus, and attitude. By staying consistent and encouraging those around me to do the same, I can help build a team culture centered on growth, accountability, and long-term success.
